This oil painting depicts a lily pond in the morning light. The lily flowers stand out aginst the water and goldfish add flashes of colour. My inspiration came from the work of the Impressionist painter, Claude Monet, who was fascinated by the effects of light on his subject matter at different times of the day. He strove to capture the interaction of light and shadow and painted the same subject time and again. The same pond is depicted in “Sparkling Lilies”.
